MRCC Yarmouth called Hunstanton Coastguard to ask for a
crew to search Thornham Marsh for two missing people. The
request was cancelled after a few minutes.
During a routine patrol, Hunstanton Coastguard team
members found a suspicious container on Heacham beach.
The discovery triggered a chemical incident alert
involving fire crews from Sandringham, Snettisham,
Heacham and King’s Lynn, and senior officers from
Norwich and Thetford areas.
After transferring the container to the car park at Snettisham at the request of the fire service, the Coastguard team stood down at 15:40.

MRCC Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard after a report
of a vehicle cut off by the tide. They found a car awash
at Parish Green, Thornham. The occupants had been able to
walk back to safety.

surfer got into difficulties near Old Hunstanton golf
club. Hunstanton Lifeboat was launched, but another kite
surfer helped the casualty to shore.
A man in his fifties had a lucky escape from the incoming
tide after he was nearly trapped on a sandbank around
1.5km from the shore. The man, who appeared to have been
drinking, made his own way back to safety, but not before
the Hunstanton Lifeboat had launched at the request of
Hunstanton Coastguard team members at the scene.
Hunstanton Coastguard returned to Snettisham to check
that the previous day’s lost vessel was safely back
afloat on the morning tide. A member of the public helped
the vessel return to a mooring at Snettisham, after which
the Coastguards returned the boat’s owner to his
family caravan.
MRCC Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard after a 10m
sailing craft with three people on board, including a
12-year-old girl, became lost in darkness in the Wash.
The boat was poorly equipped, with out-of-date charts and
no radio, and had run aground earlier in the day. The
crew did have a mobile phone, and used this to alert
Hunstanton Coastguard. The Coastguards used their
vehicle’s lights to act as a visual marker, and
conned Hunstanton Lifeboat onto the casualty. Two of the
crew returned to Hunstanton, while the boat’s owner
insisted on remaining on board for the night.
MRCC Yarmouth asked Hunstanton Coastguard to investigate
a missing canoeist. Before the team arrived on scene,
however, they learned that the man was safely back on
shore. They carried on to Brancaster to collect details
of the incident.

of a kite surfer in trouble. They found the male kite
surfer safe and well after part of his rig had failed.

carried out a controlled explosion at 19:00.

that an elderly man was missing from a care home in
Hunstanton. The team searched the clifftop, and the beach
from the cliffs to the powerboat ramp. An ambulance crew
found the casualty in Hunstanton, and the Coastguard team
stood down at 23:00.

catamaran capsized near the powerboat ramp and a man fell
into the water. Two men in a dinghy went to help.
Hunstanton lifeboat brought the catamaran’s two
crew members back to shore and helped to right the
vessel, after which the crew was able to sail it back to
the sailing club.

was spotted on the beach. Team members discovered that it
was a barrel half-full of water. They recovered it to the
powerboat ramp and arranged for the Council to dispose of
it.

missing. Wells Coastguard was also called out. The
Hunstanton team used their vehicle to search the
shoreline and found the missing girl close to Wells

a rubber ring and a body board, on a rapidly disappearing
sandbank 200m off Brancaster beach. Hunstanton lifeboat

for a missing person reported to be in a distressed
state. The police later found the casualty.

was the object they had been watching.

learned that at least one airborne Chinese lantern had
been launched that evening, and suspected that one of
these had given rise to the balloon report.
Nevertheless, they searched the beach between Hunstanton and Holme. They found nothing, and stood down at 23:00. MRCC Yarmouth received at least four other calls reporting balloons in trouble, and a helicopter was on standby at one point.

Hunstanton RNLI hovercraft rescued the casualties and their dog, but was hard put to make headway against a strong wind. In difficult beach conditions, two people in the earliest stages of hypothermia were transferred to the Coastguard vehicle, where they soon warmed up. that no further treatment was needed.

RNLI lifeboat and hovercraft were on scene, plus
helicopter Rescue 125, which had been on exercise at
Mundesley. The missing vessel, which had no radio,
compass or mobile phone, was located by the Coastguard
and escorted back to shore by the RNLI teams.
Hunstanton Coastguard joined colleagues from Brancaster
and Wells when a dinghy with three people on board was
reported adrift off the golf club. By the time the
Coastguards arrived, the occupants of the boat had been
able to walk safely to shore.

Coastguard searched the beach thoroughly. Nothing was

team searched the area and concluded that the item had
been covered by the tide. They arranged an appointment
with the bomb disposal team for early the next morning.

of the river Nene. They found the casualty and waited for

offshore. They found the inflatable, containing a
30-year-old man and his girlfriend, being helped ashore
by the man’s sister. Once the casualties were
safely ashore, Coastguards gave them some safety advice.

A 16-year-old kite surfer suffered a back injury when he
left the ground, landed badly and was hit by his buggy.
The position was reported to be on the Holme side of the
lifeboat station, about 15 minutes’ walk away. MRCC
Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard, who located the
casualty and helped ambulance paramedics. The Air
Ambulance took the casualty to Norfolk and Norwich
Hospital.

man who had been hit in the face by a winch at the power
boat club.

of a car cut off by the tide at Thornham harbour. The
driver and passengers had managed to escape, leaving the
car high and dry, and were preparing to return to their
vehicle after the tide had turned.

of a kite surfer in trouble. They arrived on scene to
find that the elderly man was simply having difficulty
getting his kite out of the water.

it went aground near the point. One report said that
three people were on board. Arriving at the scene, the
team relayed radio communications between the control
room at Yarmouth, Hunstanton RNLI hovercraft, and the
police. The hovercraft crew reported a single set of
footprints leaving the boat. After securing the boat with
stakes and ropes, Coastguards and RNLI personnel searched
the marsh and the sea bank for 45 minutes, but found no
sign of the boat’s occupants. The operation stood
down shortly after 2:00 am.

RNLI with an exhausted kite surfer at the water’s
edge. Coastguards used their vehicle to transport the
casualty to the RNLI boathouse to rendezvous with a
paramedic. After a check over by an Air Ambulance doctor,
the casualty went to hospital by ambulance.
MRCC Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard after a report
of a possible missing person at King’s Lynn. While
the Coastguard team was en route for Lynn, RAF helicopter
Rescue 128 reported that the person had been found. The
Coastguards returned to base.
MRCC Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard after a report
of distress flares off Old Hunstanton. In good visibility
and with many people about, the team searched from Old
Hunstanton to The Firs at Holme, but found nothing.
Hunstanton RNLI crew reported that a member of the public
might have been letting off fireworks on the beach.
