MRCC Yarmouth called Hunstanton Coastguard after a report
of a red flare and a craft in difficulties off Heacham.
They observed Hunstanton Lifeboat giving the boat a tow,
and helped with the recovery. The well-equipped jet boat
had apparently sucked a rope into both of its water
intakes, stopping the engine.
MRCC Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard after a report
of a car stuck on Brancaster beach. They found the beach
road flooded, one vehicle stuck halfway along, and others
stranded at the car park.
After assuring the people in the car park that they were safe, they checked on the occupants of the stuck car and arranged a recovery vehicle. By 20:50 the road was passable to four-wheel-drive vehicles and the recovery crew had arrived, so the Coastguards returned to base.

Two Hunstanton Coastguard team members drove to Holme
beach following a report of an artillery shell. They
located a large tank shell and returned with an RAF bomb
disposal team, who blew it up.
At the end of a busy day, Hunstanton Coastguard was asked
to report to Brancaster following a report that a person
on a barge had been taken ill. Team members conned
Hunstanton Lifeboat crew onto the casualty.
Scarcely had the Hunstanton Coastguard team returned to
base after after dealing with the flare at Titchwell than
MRCC Yarmouth called them to report another flare, this
time at Holme. The RAF bomb disposal team was still in
the area and the flare was quickly dealt with.
Hunstanton Coastguard met the RAF bomb disposal team and
drove onto the beach via Brancaster golf club to locate
the flare discovered the previous day. The RAF team
decided to take the flare with them back to base.
MRCC Yarmouth called Hunstanton Coastguard after a
military phosphorus flare was reported on the beach at
Titchwell. Two team members located the flare around 500
m west of the boardwalk and roped off the area in
preparation for a visit from the bomb disposal team the
following day.
Hunstanton Coastguard was paged after a 35-year-old man
fell and hit the back of his head on a groyne. The team
found the casualty around 300 metres east of the golf
club, and arranged a beach landing for the Air Ambulance.
After the departure of the helicopter the casualty was
treated by the local paramedic and then taken by his wife
to the Queen Elizabeth hospital.
MRCC Yarmouth asked Hunstanton Coastguard to look for a
woman reported missing from Peterborough. She was
reported to have a beach hut at Old Hunstanton, and team
members found her there in a distressed state. Police
officers arrived later and took the casualty to
King’s Lynn for treatment.
MRCC Yarmouth paged Hunstanton Coastguard after a
military phosphorus flare was discovered on the beach
around 200 m west of the bird reserve. After cordoning
the area, the team returned to base. At 13:20 they
returned to meet an RAF bomb disposal team, who blew the
flare up. The job was finished by 15:15.
Hunstanton Coastguard attended after a small craft was
seen drifting near the sailing club. The boat was
identified as the club’s safety boat. An hour later
the boat had beached itself, and Coastguards stood by
while club members anchored it in preparation for
recovery the next day.
Hunstanton Coastguard member and marine mammal specialist
Kieran Copeland was asked by MRCC Yarmouth to investigate
a dead porpoise by the pier.
Downham police again asked for help from Hunstanton and
Sutton Bridge Coastguards to continue the search begun
the day before. They searched both banks of the Ouse
north from Downham bridge, and the area east of the river
and Bedford Cut, between Downham and Denver Sluice.
Nothing was found, and the Coastguard teams stood down at
16:30.
Hunstanton and Sutton Bridge Coastguard teams were called
to help police after an 18-year-old man went missing near
the River Ouse. They searched the river bank between
Downham and Stowbridge, and at Denver Sluice, while RAF
helicopter Rescue 128 searched from Ten Mile Bank to
Wiggenhall. Nothing was found apart from a shoe believed
to belong to the missing man. By 18:30 it was dark and
the team stood down for the day.
Hunstanton Coastguard was paged by MRCC Yarmouth
following a report from police that a man aged about 50
was missing in the Hunstanton area. Searching along the
promenade and under the cliffs, team members spotted a
body in the water around 200 m north of the end of the
prom. They recovered the body from the water, checked for
signs of life and informed the police. They then used the
Coastguard stretcher to transport the body to the
promenade where it was later picked up by an undertaker.
